A Letter From The President

Hello Tennis Players!

I am excited to be writing my first letter to you as President of TALK. We have lots of exciting things planned this year, so get ready!

It is hard to believe that it is already March and that TALK has been in existence for over 2 years. The league season has been going on since January and TALK is up and running with some exciting new programs.

What is truly exciting is that we have a lot of interest from league players to become more involved in TALK. An organization is only as good as its volunteers, and our volunteers the last couple of years have been taxed with a lot…so it is refreshing to see some new faces among the group.

Just a few things to let you know what we will be working on this year:

1. The push from National is to develop the beginner tennis league or the 2.0 level. TALK hosted a free clinic at UL Bass Rudd Tennis Center on February 28th and we had 31 new tennis players. We will be hosting a second free clinic on March 7th at UL’s Bass Rudd Tennis Center from 4:00- 6:00 pm and I already have 23 additional people signed up. We have plans to host a free clinic at Blairwood on April 18th and we are working with Springhurst to host one at their facility. Following these clinics we will start a 6 week session of lessons, and then hopefully form some 2.0 teams and get some match play for the teams. The 2.0 level will have a championship in October of this year.

2. So what do you think was going on in Kentucky 100 years ago this year? It just so happens that is when the Kentucky Tennis Association aka USTA-Kentucky was formed.  (This is also the 100 year anniversary for the Boy Scouts & Hallmark. Just a little trivia!) Tennis has been in Kentucky for 100 years. TALK is planning an event to commemorate this occasion. Watch for additional information.

3.  Many of us got involved in playing league tennis for the social aspect. To give something back to the players - TALK will be hosting an end of the league season party in June.  More information will be coming.

Along with these events, TALK assists the Local League Coordinator in the administration of all league programs- adult, senior, mixed and combo.

I look forward to a very busy and exciting 2010 and if you would like to work on a committee, or assist with one of these many ventures, please send me an email kkutz@fbtlaw.com. We would love for you to be a part of this exciting organization. See you on the courts!
